Change Your Career and Change Your Life By Starting Your Own Business

Even if you're not a born entrepreneur, at some point in your life you've probably toyed with the idea of starting your own business. Perhaps you've even opted out of your mainstream career to strike out on your own. If you have, you're among the legions of men and women who have made the choice to start their own businesses.

Unfortunately, many dreams of self-employment turn into nightmares, primarily because many of those who start businesses don't know how to critically assess business opportunities, how to create a business plan, how to read a financial report, or how to design and implement a marketing plan. Truly, the difference between those who succeed and those who fail most often boils down to whether or not the person has acquired the knowledge necessary to launch and operate a business.

What most aspiring entrepreneurs don't realize is that the skill set necessary to start a business isn't out of reach. It's simply a matter of finding the right tools and using them to your best advantage. These tools can be found in books, through online college courses, through training, or through the mentorship of a successful businessperson.

In a nutshell, these are the steps you need to take in order to change your career and change your life through starting your own business:

1. Identify and build on your strengths. If you are a creative person who thrives on the unexpected, starting a bookkeeping business that requires endless hours of number crunching is a recipe for disaster. You need to assess your talents and interests, and then discover how you can use them to create a niche and demand for your product or service.

2. Create a business plan. A business plan is both your vision for your business and your roadmap to achieve your goals. It must include defining your product or service, identifying your competitors and differentiating yourself from them, and pinpointing funding and financial opportunities.

3. Lay the groundwork. Businesses aren't built in a day, and you have to go through the mundane tasks of setting up bank accounts, securing business licenses, and jumping through the necessary regulatory hoops.

4. Create a marketing plan. Whether or not your business includes e-commerce, you can be sure that the Internet will play a major role in marketing your new business. But there are many other ways of garnering low cost or free advertising and marketing, and you need to make it your business to learn about them. You must also identify your target market and come up with a strategy to bring your product or service to that market.

5. Pay attention to the details. Many businesses fail because of a lack of attention to details - whether that means sloppy accounting practices, poor inventory control, or missing the deadline for a funding source. Launching a business is a balancing act, and you and your team must walk the high wire with aplomb.

6. Acknowledge and dismiss fear. Fear is what often holds us back from achieving our dreams. There's no doubt that leaving your career to start your own business is a downright frightening proposition. But with the right tools, you can acknowledge your fears for what they are, and then boldly move forward on your new career path of self-employment.

7 Ways to Sell and Retain Your Integrity

Making more sales while retaining your integrity -- is it possible to do both?

Here are seven suggestions:

1. Focus on the getting to the "truth" of your potential client's situation. You may or may not be a fit for each other, so focusing on the end goal of making the sale only derails the trust-building process. Without trust, you compromise integrity.

2. Eliminate rejection once and for all by setting realistic expectations and avoiding traditional sales behaviors such as defensiveness, persuasion, and over-confidence. If you're not trying to sell, you can't be rejected.

3. Stop "chasing" potential clients who have no intention of buying. How can you do this? Shift your mindset and boost your truth-seeking skills so that you can quickly, yet graciously, discern whether the two of you are a potential "fit" or not.

4. Avoid calling people "prospects" or even thinking about them that way. People are people, and when you label them in your language or your thoughts, you dehumanize them and the sales process. "Prospect" reinforces the notion that sales is only a "numbers game." Train yourself to think about "potential clients" instead.

5. Take the "cold" out of your cold calling. Don't start with "Hi, my name is... I'm with... We do...". When you begin a conversation by making it about you, instead of about the other person, you immediately cut off the possibility of opening a dialogue. Try the more humble approach of asking "Maybe you can help me out for a second," and keep in mind that you're really calling to help them solve their problems.

6. Don't try to "overcome" objections. Instead, determine whether the objection is the client's truth or not. Then you can decide whether to continue to open the conversation.

7. Avoid using "I" or "We" in your e-mail communications to potential clients. These words indicate that the focus of your communication is on satisfying your needs rather than solving their problems. This sets the wrong tone for a potential relationship.

Sales Training Tip – 10 reasons why hard sales tactics never work

Hard selling is when you go straight to the point and start to try to sell your product without any finesse. It is simply telling your prospective buyer that he should buy your product. Now this hard-core approach may work in some instances but the majority of your prospective buyers will be put off the sale by this approach. Here are 10 good reasons to change your sales tactics.

1.     People hate being sold to: hard sell will bring out the worst in people. When aggressive sales techniques are used this will prompt the prospective buyer to be aggressive as well and act negatively to the sales person. Pretty soon they are ready to argue with you and you know the sale is completely lost.

2.     Hard sell will intimidate your prospective buyer: This sales tactic will intimidate some buyers and again cause them to have less interest in the sale. Intimidation will again give your prospective buyer negative feelings towards the sale. They will not have a very good feeling about your company when they see the sort of sales people you hire. This is another factor that will cause you to lose the sales

3.     Hard sell makes you sound desperate to sell and this will always put off your buyer. The buyer can sense when the sales person is desperate to sell a product to them. The buyer wonders why the seller is so desperate and is immediately suspicious. This suspicion will turn into mistrust of the truth in what the sales person is saying. The buyer will very likely not buy the product.

4.     Hard sell in sales copy will often use hype and prospective buyers can see right through this. Prospective buyers are savvier than they were and will not put up with hype. They want the facts not some pie in the sky promise. If sales copy tries to push the sale with this type of tactic there will be no sale.

5.     Prospects need a reason to buy: hard sell does not allow time to explain benefits and what the prospective buyer can expect from the product. Hard sell usually uses features rather than benefits. Benefits are the reason for a customer to buy. You must answer the quest on every prospective buyers mind “What’s in it for me?”

6.     You need to build rapport with prospective buyers: building a relationship with your potential buyer is a very important part of selling. You will not only make a sale on the initial product you will build confidence in your buyer. When the buyer has confidence, they will very likely purchase another related product from your company. If you use hard sell you cannot build this all-important relationship. Ultimately you will lose not only the initial sale but also a valuable long-term customer.

7.     Soft sell will allow the reader to make his own decision without being pushed into a sale. As mentioned people do not like to be sold to, they do not want to feel that someone is dictating to them and telling them that they have to buy something. Most people want to feel that they are making their own decisions and soft sell will do this for them.

8.     Soft sell always outsells hard sell: it is a proven fact that soft sell always outsells soft sell. This is because people can be persuaded but do not like to be forced into a sale. Hard sell is literally pushing your product at your prospective customer and not giving them a chance to say no. Soft sell on the other hand is offering your prospective buyer a product and allowing them to make the decision to buy.

9.     It is easier and more enjoyable to use soft sell tactics: soft sell will allow you to use more sales strategies. It is a more enjoyable way to sell because you can talk to the customer, demonstrate benefits and build up a good rapport with your prospective buyer. It is more enjoyable to talk with your buyer and get to know him rather than pushing a sale on him.

10.    Soft sell is a powerful way of pre selling products and warming your customer for the sale. When you warm your prospective buyer for the sale, you will be far more successful in selling your product or service. People like to know more about products before they buy and pre selling will allow you to do this for them.

Hard sell rarely works because of the above reasons. Additionally there is a stereotype of the pushy sales person using hard sell tactics. When hard sell is used this image comes into the prospects mind and prevents them from accepting the sale. In this way you will lose many sales.

Search Engine Marketing & Keyword Lookup

Today we’re going to teach you how to take a general category and break it down into a profitable niche market and then we’re going to show you how to find your most targeted keywords for that niche market.  First of all we’re not here to dog those who are currently showing you how to find a niche market, using Google or EBay are clever ways to find possible niches and it’s a lot better than guessing— for assuming what people are looking for or want by guessing is just pure folly.  However, through our research, Pam and I have found out that only half of the equation is being given and the other half of the equation that isn’t being given is the use of a keyword lookup tool.

Let’s go to Keyword Discovery (http://www.keyworddiscovery.com/search.html), they’re just one of the free tools  out there that we like, there are many others this is just one of them.  Now, we’ll go down to the keyword box and type in a general keyword that we want, we’ll just go with “boots.” Then go down to the authorization box and fill in the letters and numbers shown, making note that it is case sensitive.  Then hit enter or press Search.

On the top line, “boots” has a number of 268,750--now that number is for searches per month.  Now, a lot of your keyword tools are going to vary on the numbers, for their accuracy, but they’re all going to be in this general area, it’s just so that you can get an idea of what people are looking for.

So we’re going to use “boots,” so let’s see if we can find a niche for that keyword.  Let’s go over to Google, and in the Google search we’ll type in “boots” to see the competition is.  Okay, on the right hand side, “boots” has a competition of 155,000,000.  Now 155 million is huge, that’s a big number.  So, we’re going to want to try to narrow this down a little bit, to see if we can find a bit better of a niche.

So, let’s go back to our keyword tool and let’s find out what’s going on under “boots.”  Underneath “boots” the most looked for keyword is “ugg boots,” not “cowboy boots,” or “rain boots.”  “Ugg boots” is the most in demand keyword right now and it has a number of 57,595 searches per month, which is a very respectable number.  But, there are two parts to this equation.

We want to see what the competition is.  So, in other words, no matter what your key term is and how many searches per month, if the competition number is just out of the water, like a billion, you know you have a huge competition there and it is probably better to find a different type of niche, a different type of subject, or different information to sell.

But, “ugg boots” is a very respectable term, it’s getting respectable hits, so it’s worth further exploration.  So, let’s go over to Google and let’s find out just exactly what the competition is.  Let’s type in “ugg boots” and see, which narrows it down quite a bit to 1,990,000, so basically we have a number of two million for the competition which is very high.  But if you keep it around a million or less, you can get into a good niche situation.  The hundreds of thousands are even better, maybe 250,000 or even 150,000 that would be excellent numbers for this amount of keyword searches per month (57,595).

So, we have “ugg boots” but let’s try and tighten that up a little bit better because we know that will work for a niche because it’s right around the one million mark and it does have a high search per month number.  But, if we were going to use “ugg boots”  let’s decide what kind of keywords we could put in our website for search engine optimization.  Now we have our niche, let’s find the most targeted keywords for that niche.

So, we’ll type in “ugg boots” into Keyword Discovery and it brings up a result with the top search term being “ugg boots size 8” and it has a monthly search of 1,244.  But, like I said, there are two parts to this equation.  Let’s find out what the competition is, so let’s go back to Google and type in “ugg boots size 8.”

It brings up a result with a much better competition bracket with only 238,000 for that key term.  See how we’re narrowing it down into a niche, into getting the right eyeballs to your site?  If you’re selling “ugg boots” you don’t want people looking for “cowboy boots” coming to your site because that’s not what they’re looking for.  You want people that are looking for “ugg boots” to come to your site—get the right eyeballs coming to your site—because if they’re looking for “ugg boots,” especially “ugg boots size 8” and you’re store is on the first page, which can be accomplished with our methods, they’re going to click on you and they’re going to buy from you.

Now, just for curiosities sake, let’s see what one other keyword is bringing—“cheap ugg boots” is third on the list and it has 1,241 hits per month and it’s just about three different from the “ugg boots size 8” key term which had 1,244.  So, let’s go find out it’s competition on Google.  A search result for “cheap ugg boots” brings up 116,000, so your competition is in half.  This number is half of the other search which had 238,000.  Even though the searches for those key terms are almost identical, there’s just about three searches difference , but your competition has been reduced by half.  So, you know that your “cheap ugg boots” is going to be one of your top keywords, plus it will help get the right eyeballs to your site.  These are both very good.

Another point I want to make is that we have four key terms that are at least one thousand searches per month or better and that’s where you want to start, or place your lower limit.  Now, of course you’re going to have a balance between your competition and your key term that’s being searched for.  But if you’re a thousand hits per month or better that will develop good organic traffic to your site and if you can get it narrowed down so that your competition is below a million, you’re going to have a niche.  That was just real easily and straight forward how you can find a niche market and succeed.

The Benefits of Small Business Credit Cards

Business credit cards are very essential for small businesses.  These credit cards offer the most important accountant benefit to small business owners, which is to keep business expenses separate from personal expenses. What would have been a nightmare trying to figure out various expenses are now recorded on your free monthly statements. This saves the business owners a vast amount of time trying to manage expenses since there is no need to save receipts, worry about losing receipts, reimbursements errors or sorting out personal expenses from business expenses. With this statement, business owners are able to monitor and control expenses and make it easy in filing income tax.

Do not use a personal credit card to make purchases. This will only cause confusion, inaccurate reporting and poor business management. Running a small business requires business owners to maintain accurate record keeping and track expenses. This is where the business credit card plays a pivotal roll. It separates personal expenses from business expenses and categorizes expenditure with no need for reconciling your expenses. Credit card companies can also generate itemized spending reports for individual employees to track employees spending. This information is the key to having a successful business. Business owners are able to manage their business more wisely because of the detail transactions recorded on their monthly business statement.

The Business Credit Card statement gives a categorized report of all purchases made and the ability to generate itemized employees report. Knowing where every dime is spent will enable the business owner to cut expenses where needed and improve on investments that are showing a profit. The major objective in doing business is to make a profit and to stay in business. Therefore keeping track of every purchase made and bill paid is very important in running a successful business. Accurate records at your finger tips will help in managing cash flow with accuracy, making right decisions, making a profit and eventually staying in business as the business grow.

Business credit cards have features comparable to standard credit cards such as, low introductory APR, cash back, rewards, frequent flyer miles, no annual fees, 0% Intro APR, balance transfers etc. The big difference is that business credit cards are optimized to save money on business purchases. Business owners can save money by leveraging their buying power, getting merchant discounts, group discounts, buying in bulk and getting a higher credit limit. The more you spend the better the rewards and cash back you receive.

Business credit cards have additional benefits such as online account management and may have option to download statement into QuickBooks, auto insurance, higher cash advances, personalized business credit card, free additional cards, year end statement to file income tax, higher unsecured credit limit. No need to spend time reconciling your expenses. Protect your credit by making credit card payments on time to avoid penalties. Credit card activities are reported to the credit bureaus Experian, Equifax and Trans Union.

Before applying for a small business credit card you will need to do some research. This is to help in finding the best business credit card suited for your company. All business credit do not have the same features. Some may be better suited for travel rewards, entertainment, credit limit, gasoline purchases, car rental, etc. An example would be business owner maximizing the benefits of the business credit card by having the fleet of vehicles buy its gas from a company that offers the most cash back or employees flying on airlines that offers the most bonus miles that can be used for free airline ticket.

Read the terms and conditions to know about the features offered such as interest rates, cash back, rewards and fees. Small business owners should know about the repercussions about making late payments, default on payments and who is responsible for any expenses incurred if your credit card is stolen etc. Small business owners are generally a sole proprietorship and are personally liable for the debts. Therefore if the business owner defaults on credit-card payments the creditors can go after the person who signed the credit card application.

So What Is The True Salary For Medical Transcriptionist?

So how much can you expect to earn as a medical transcriptionist?

I know you’re going to hate this answer, but…it depends. Medical transcription is listed as one of the fastest growing careers and will be for the next several years. That’s good news!

Listen to this, according to the U.S. Dept. of Labor‘s May, 2005 statistics regarding medical transcription, the hourly mean wage was $14.36 and the annual mean wage was $29,880. This is up from the previous year, which is good considering some job wages are going down.

The five top paying states in order were Alaska, California, New Jersey, Massachusetts, and Nevada.  Now, if you don’t live in one of the top five states, don’t worry!

I live in Georgia and make a lot more than the “average” the DOL has listed and there’s a good chance you will too! The pay starting out at your first job (which may be in a doctor’s office, hospital, or online service) usually is pretty modest.

The good side of that is that many times you get benefits such as paid leave and insurance. If it’s the top salary you are going for, just be patient. Self-employed MTs can earn significantly more than MT employees.

Of course, they have to take out taxes and get their own insurance either privately or through their spouse’s company but the rewards are many!

Most MTs are paid by the line, for example if you earn $0.10 per line and you type 1000 lines, you earn $100.

You can either then let the word processing program (Word or Word Perfect) tell you how many lines there are or, in some older programs, you may need to get the word count, then divide by 11 to get the line count. Most line counts are made by dividing the number of words by 11 since a line has an average of 11 words in it). The going rate is anywhere from as low as $0.05 per line (for beginners) to $0.14 per line and even more. In my area the average is $0.08 to $0.12 per line.

Try not to take a job where you are paid by the hour.

You will make less money and you will be tempted to hurry and may make careless errors, thereby not delivering good quality.

Also, ONE WORD OF WARNING!!!!! OK, two words, Be Patient!

When you first start out, you will feel like you are making $2.00 per hour once you add your lines and multiply by your rate, then divide by how much time you spent typing.

I remember sitting at the computer one night in tears because I had just worked for 4 HOURS transcribing one tape and had earned a whopping $4.50 per hour! I thought, “I can’t do this! It’s not worth it!” It was sooooo frustrating!

But do you know what was causing me to be so “slow”? It wasn’t my typing speed (which by the way you can go to www.careerstep.com, click the top link for “free typing test” and it will time you for one minute and give you feedback regarding your accuracy and score)… it was having to stop and look up words every 30 seconds.

The faster you learn the medical terms, the faster you will do your work and the more you will get paid. At first it is hard because you aren’t sure what the doctor is saying and if it’s really unclear, you have to try looking up a word you can’t even begin to spell.

If you hear the word clearly but don’t know how to spell it, you may have to stop and pull out one of your reference books and look up the correct spelling, OR if you have someone else editing your work you may have to write this out for that person to look up. This all takes time. This is also where good reference books, good training (medical terminology course for sure!), and a GREAT medical spell checker (that can catch many of the misspelled words as you type) come in.

All of these resources will increase your speed and your quality, thereby increasing your pay considerably! Just don’t give up! You will want to at first, I did too!!! And so many other MTs I have talked to say the same thing.

You are in good company. But we are so glad we didn’t give up and you will be too!

By the way, that same 4 Hour tape today would take me about 45 minutes which comes to roughly $27.00 per hour.

Everyone Wins With Private Label Rights

Would you believe a person if they told you that it was possible to take another person’s work, change it anyway you please and call the edited material yours?

What if that person also told you that besides being able to do so, you could actually profit from that work and not be liable for any copyright infringement?

If you haven’t heard of private label rights, then most likely you’d think they were pulling your leg. But all the above are true if you are able secure these rights.

But what are private label rights?

To understand why private label rights are so special, you need to know about resale and master resale first.

Resale rights are simply permission from the owner of a work (a book, for example) to allow you to take the said material and distribute it for your own profit.

Master resale rights take it a step further and allow you to sell the resale rights to the work. The reason why it is called master resale rights is because it covers a large set of permissible actions to the person who acquires those rights.

Experts would tell you that to get the most of your purchasing of master resale rights, the following list of actions should allow you to:

1. give the material away unaltered

2. combine the material with others

3. give the material away as a bonus item

4. use the material a content for websites

5. divide the product into separate articles

6. put the rights for the material or the material itself up for auction

7. provide the material as content for paid membership sites

8. sell resale rights for the material

9. change or alter the material

Buying the whole set of these rights is great but it can cost you. But there is a way to get almost all of these actions and not have to pay as much for master resale rights IF you acquire just the right to change or alter the material, which is exactly what private label rights are.

With these set of rights, you are given permission to change another person’s work. By altering the material, you have made the work your own which then allows you to profit from the material any way you intend to.

Let’s say you were able to acquire private label rights for a particular ebook. What can you do?

For starters, you can break up the book into separate chapters and then sell these as articles. On the other hand, if you were able to acquire private label rights for a set of articles, you could combine them and package it as a book, which you then can sell.

You can change the material’s content by adding or removing details. You can also add pictures or illustrations as well as other media like sound or video clips.

All of these actions are possible but the best part about private label rights is that you are not obligated to mention the original author (or pay them any royalties) for the changes you have done to his or her material. You can claim the material as yours by putting your name as the author of the material.

With these changes, the ways on capitalizing on them are many.

You can come up with a whole new set of products from a single material source. Take an ebook for example. On one hand, you’ve broken up the book to sell them as articles. On the other, you’ve enhanced the book’s content with media to package it as your own work and putting it up for sale on the market.

Acquiring private label rights is a great way to create a brand for your business. As you may already know, one of the keys to a successful business is to distinguish yourself from the rest. With private label rights, you can change the material and make it uniquely yours. If your target market likes your material, your market can perceive you as an expert in your line of business, which is something you can really capitalize on as you sell your products or services.

However, it is not only the person who acquires private label rights who stands to benefit from it. It may be difficult to understand at first, but selling private label rights benefits even the original creator.

With the increasing demand for original material to be sold with private label rights, a writer can make good money from his or her work. The incentive is that he or she can command a higher price for the work given the rights that go with the material.

Furthermore, selling the right to change the material any way the buyer wants is actually giving new life to the material. By giving the buyer the freedom to change the content in a number of creative ways, the material’s usability sand relevance is extended.

By compensating the original content creator well; by allowing freedom and flexibility for the purchaser; and by giving the end user a wealth of very useful information, private label rights are by far one of the best things out there in the world of online marketing.

Cash Paid Surveys – Exactly What Are They?

Cash paid surveys are surveys placed on websites that pay users for completing surveys. There are quite a few specialized websites that allow you to register and take as many surveys as you want. You are paid a certain amount of money for each survey. The amount paid fluctuates for different companies and surveys.

What is the purpose for cash paid surveys? There are many companies or institutes that need to research the public opinion for a variety of reasons: political parties that need to find out what the electorate wants to build their electoral strategy effectively, companies that need marketing research studies for their marketing campaign, sociological research organizations wanting to explore public opinion trends and even the government.

With so many requests to answer surveys, both online and offline, people are becoming more and more jaded. In order to get enough responders, the organizations taking these cash paid surveys need to offer people an   incentive. This is why they are willing to invest some money in determining people to answer their polls. This is what a paid survey opinion is for.

What Are The Advantages?

For the companies:

With the new cash paid survey opinion technique, organizations get enough responders to conduct their studies successfully. Compared to the benefits of getting their research done, the cost of paying the responders is very low. If they conduct their studies online, the cash paid survey opinion method costs them even less that if they had to print all the questionnaires and pay interview operators.

For the consumers:

Giving your cash paid survey opinion is an easy way of earning money. You can do it in your own home, without spending time on traveling to the office and back home every day. In addition, you get to choose the hours when you're taking a pay survey opinion and you can take a break at any time you want.

You don't have to get up early in the morning to go to work and you don't have to wear a tie. You can stay in your pajamas all day long. You can also take a vacation whenever you want and then get back to work without having to worry about losing your job. You don't have to go through all the stress that comes along with job interviews and dealing with demanding bosses or unfriendly colleagues.

Cash paid survey opinion is very suitable for new moms who need to stay home with their new born babies, for teenagers who go to school and can't afford to have a job and for those persons who would just have to have a tight schedule. You can also do it for some extra money when you already have a job.

Cash paid survey opinion seems like a good alternative both for the companies that need to conduct research studies to build effective strategies and for the responders who are tired of having people wasting their time without giving them anything in return.
